Scottish Government Denies Holiday Accommodation Plans on SSSI

A recent ruling by the Scottish Government has clarified that individuals who purchased plots of land at Achnabobane near Spean Bridge will not be permitted to construct holiday accommodation on these sites. The government denied a total of 30 appeals from landowners seeking to overturn restrictions placed on the land, which is designated as a Special Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI).
The decision stems from the government’s commitment to preserving natural habitats and biodiversity within these protected areas. The SSSI designation indicates that the land contains significant natural features that warrant conservation. As such, any development that could potentially disrupt these features is closely scrutinized.
Landowners who hoped to build holiday homes on their plots expressed disappointment following the announcement.
