Teen Mother Charged in Underage Sex Case Linked to Banker’s Death

A tragic case involving an 18-year-old mother of two, Shauntelle Went, has emerged in connection with the death of a prominent banker, Christopher James McCann. Went is facing serious charges of child procurement, accused of facilitating sexual encounters between two underage girls and the 50-year-old executive, who took his own life shortly after his arrest.
According to police reports, Went allegedly arranged for the two girls, aged 14 and 15, to meet McCann at a hotel in Brisbane on May 14, 2025. The girls were said to have been lured to the location after McCann allegedly agreed to pay Went for their services. One of the girls was reportedly living in a residential care home supervised by the Department of Child Safety at the time. Both Went and McCann have been charged with using electronic communication to procure a child under 16 for a sexual act, an offense that carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison.
McCann, who served as the head of health and social infrastructure at Commonwealth Bank, was released on bail to stay at a friend’s residence in Mudgeeraba, Gold Coast. Tragically, just two days after his release, he was found dead at Springbrook National Park.
Background of Shauntelle Went
Shauntelle Went’s life has been marked by trauma and hardship. Her history reveals a series of challenges, including previous encounters with law enforcement, family tragedies, and struggles with her personal life. She became a mother at the age of 14, giving birth to her first child in 2021, followed by a second child two years later.
In April 2021, Went’s younger brother, Aiden, tragically drowned at Cedar Creek Falls, a popular swimming location on the Gold Coast. His disappearance during a swimming outing led to a search that ended with the recovery of his body later that evening. Went’s mother, Sherry Carroll, expressed the profound impact of this loss, stating that it was a challenge she would struggle to overcome.
Despite her difficult circumstances, Went has used social media to reflect on her journey. In 2022, she acknowledged her past mistakes and declared her intent to change for the sake of her family. Her posts also reveal her struggles with self-image and the pressures of public scrutiny, especially following the recent allegations against her.
Legal Proceedings and Public Reaction
Following her arrest, Went faced a court appearance where she was granted bail. During the proceedings, Magistrate Louise Shepherd recognized her vulnerability, noting her status as a young woman from a traumatic background who was working in the sex industry. The court ordered her to reside in Brassall, near Ipswich, as a condition of her bail.
Went has also actively responded to criticism on social media, particularly targeting comments regarding her appearance and her work on the adult content platform OnlyFans. In a TikTok post, she emphasized her financial success, stating she earned $16,000 in just two days, and pushed back against her detractors.
As the case unfolds, Went is scheduled to return to court on August 4, 2025, to face the charges against her. The situation has sparked significant public interest, raising various discussions about the complexities surrounding young individuals in distressing circumstances and the broader implications of such incidents on society.
