Donald Trump officially opened his new golf course in Menie, Aberdeenshire, on August 13, 2023. This marks the inauguration of a second 18-hole course at the resort, adding to his growing portfolio in Scotland. The event capped off Trump’s five-day visit, which also included meetings with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at his Turnberry course.

During this visit, Trump has been able to divert attention from ongoing controversies in the United States, particularly surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein files. Instead, he focused on promoting his golf ventures, including a preview of the new course before it opens to the public.

The Trump Organization now operates three courses in Scotland, with Turnberry acquired in 2014 and another near Aberdeen opened in 2012. The newly launched merchandise store at Turnberry provides visitors with a range of Trump-branded items, catering to both golf enthusiasts and souvenir hunters.

Exclusive Merchandise Available at Turnberry

Among the items available are the iconic “Make America Great Again” hats, priced at £55, along with the Trump 45/47 caps, which commemorate his two non-consecutive presidencies for £50. For those seeking more unique memorabilia, “Letters to Trump,” a book featuring correspondence with notable figures, is available for £99.

Other merchandise includes metal tumblers and bottle openers, each priced at £35, with coffee mugs available for £20. For a more affordable option, visitors can purchase Trump-branded playing cards and fridge magnets for £15 each. A ball marker, priced at £10, is the least expensive item, offering a playful nod to Trump’s golf prowess.

Trump’s golfing activities during the weekend coincided with protests outside the course. He took the time to invite Sir Keir Starmer aboard Air Force One for a private tour of his Aberdeen property. Reflecting on the experience of golfing, Trump remarked, “Even if you play badly, it’s still good. If you had a bad day on the golf course, it’s OK. It’s better than other days.”

Praising Turnberry’s Renovations

While at Turnberry, Trump also took the opportunity to commend the renovations made to the ballroom, which he claimed he financed extensively. He humorously suggested that a similar ballroom could enhance the aesthetic of the White House, saying, “I could take this one, drop it right down there, and it would be beautiful.”

As he wraps up his Scottish visit, Trump’s focus remains firmly on his golf properties, further intertwining his political persona with his business interests. The opening of the new course and associated merchandise presents yet another example of how he continues to leverage his presidency to bolster his brand and engage with supporters both at home and abroad.
