Two Arrested in Belgrade Homicide After Confession by Suspect

The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade has initiated an investigation into two individuals, Đorđe Z. (21) and Marko P. (18), suspected of committing homicide on October 5, 2023, in Hercegovačka Street. The prosecutor’s office announced that the two are believed to have taken the life of an unidentified male, likely a Montenegrin citizen, whose identity is still under investigation.
According to the statement released on the prosecutor’s office website, the suspects are facing serious charges. Đorđe Z. has reportedly confessed to the crime during questioning but has not provided additional details regarding the incident. In contrast, Marko P. opted to exercise his legal right to remain silent.
Following their interrogation, the prosecution has requested that a judge at the Higher Court in Belgrade place both suspects in custody. The office cited significant reasons suggesting that the suspects could influence witnesses or potentially commit further crimes if released.
The statement detailed that the crime they are accused of carries a prison sentence of more than ten years. The nature of the crime and its impact on public safety raised concerns that could impede the fair conduct of the legal proceedings.
The investigation order alleges that Đorđe Z. orchestrated and planned the manner and location of the murder, ambushing the victim when he least expected it. He is also charged with illegal possession of firearms, having been found with weapons that he did not have permission to carry. Marko P. is accused of aiding in the commission of the homicide.
Around 23:00 local time, Đorđe Z. reportedly took a taxi to Hercegovačka Street, where he met an unidentified male, believed to be the Montenegrin citizen, F.I. During this encounter, Đorđe Z. handed over two suitcases that had been delivered to his apartment earlier that evening.
As the unidentified male began to leave with the suitcases, Đorđe Z. allegedly fired multiple shots at him, resulting in the victim’s immediate death at the scene.
Following the shooting, Đorđe Z. attempted to flee towards higher numbers on Hercegovačka Street, where he was apprehended by police at a pedestrian crossing near an underground garage entrance. During the arrest, officers discovered two handguns, a Glock and an EZ9 9mm PARA, both without visible serial numbers and each loaded with a single round.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to establish further details surrounding this tragic incident that has shaken the local community.
