British Brothers, Aged 11 and 13, Drown at Spanish Beach

Two British brothers, aged 11 and 13, tragically drowned on Tuesday evening while swimming at Llarga beach in Salou, Tarragona. The incident occurred around 20:47 local time, during which their father, who also entered the water, was rescued alive.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the distress call, which was made at 20:47. Paramedics from the Medical Emergency System arrived on the scene, and a team of psychologists was deployed to support the family following this devastating event.
According to the Civil Protection of the Generalitat, the deaths of the two boys represent the 15th and 16th fatalities on Catalan beaches since the summer campaign began on June 15. This figure surpasses the number of deaths recorded during the same period last summer by five. The authorities have emphasized the importance of exercising extreme caution while swimming in beaches, pools, and other bodies of water during the summer months.
In a statement, the Civil Protection of the Generalitat said, “Two brothers, of British nationality and aged 11 and 13, drowned this evening on the Llarga beach in Salou (Tarragona). The father of the minors, who had also entered the water, was rescued alive.”
The tragic incident has raised concerns about water safety and the need for vigilance. The Civil Protection urged beachgoers to remain aware of their surroundings and to report any individuals who appear to be struggling in the water by contacting lifeguard services or calling emergency services at 112.
As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of these young lives, and families are reminded to prioritize safety while enjoying the summer.
