Heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions are expected to bring significant flooding risks to Gloucestershire, particularly along the River Severn. The Environment Agency has issued warnings indicating that high river levels could lead to flooding in multiple areas starting this evening and continuing into the morning of March 15, 2024.

According to the Environment Agency, flooding may impact several locations, including Sandhurst and Maisemore. Areas adjacent to these sites, such as Coal Wharf and Riverside, are also under scrutiny due to the rising tide levels. A spokesperson for the agency noted, “During high tides, flooding may affect Coal Wharf and Riverside, Maisemore, and Sandhurst Lane.”

Forecasts suggest that peak river heights in Gloucester could reach between 3.5m and 3.65m by 21:15 this evening. In Sandhurst, levels may rise to approximately 3.7m by 21:30. Tomorrow morning, Gloucester could see river heights peaking at 3.45m to 3.65m, while Sandhurst may experience an even higher level of 3.8m.

In addition to the flood warnings, alerts have been issued for surrounding areas. While these alerts are less likely to result in severe flooding, residents are still encouraged to remain vigilant. The Environment Agency is actively monitoring the situation and providing guidance to those living in affected regions.

The agency advises individuals to avoid using low-lying footpaths and bridges near local watercourses. Caution is recommended when moving through areas that may experience flood water, whether on foot, bicycle, or in vehicles.

As the situation develops, residents are urged to stay informed and take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety. The Environment Agency’s ongoing efforts to communicate updates highlight the importance of preparedness during such weather events.
