Matheus Cunha Critiques Manchester United After Brentford Defeat

Manchester United’s disappointing performance against Brentford on Saturday has drawn sharp criticism from player Matheus Cunha. The match, held at the Gtech Community Stadium, ended with a 3-1 victory for Brentford, pushing United further into the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Brentford established early dominance, with goals from Igor Thiago in the 10th and 20th minutes. Although United’s Benjamin Sesko managed to score his first goal just before half-time, it proved to be a mere consolation. United struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, most notably when Bruno Fernandes‘ penalty attempt was saved by Brentford’s Caoimhin Kelleher after a foul on Bryan Mbeumo by Nathan Collins. The final blow came in stoppage time when Mathias Jensen added a third goal for the Bees, sealing United’s fate.
The defeat marks United’s third loss in six league matches, intensifying scrutiny on manager Ruben Amorim. Following the match, Amorim addressed the media, expressing confidence in his position, stating, “I am never concerned about my job – I am not that kind of guy. It is not my decision. I will do the best I can every minute I am here.”
Cunha echoed the sentiment of frustration within the United dressing room, describing the atmosphere as “horrible.” Speaking to TNT Sport, he emphasized the team’s commitment to performing for such a prestigious club. “For it not to end like that, it is a horrible feeling. Everyone wanted to do more, everyone needs to do more,” he said.
The summer signing did not shy away from acknowledging the team’s shortcomings, insisting that excuses were not an option. “Honestly, trying to find excuses, I don’t think is the way. We know what you need to do. I don’t think we did well. They were more fit; they arrived and scored goals, but like I say, that is not an excuse,” Cunha added.
As Manchester United grapples with its ongoing struggles, the pressure on Amorim and the squad grows. With the team remaining in the lower echelons of the Premier League table, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how they respond in the coming weeks. The players are aware of the need for improvement and must rally to shift the current trajectory.
The match against Brentford has left many questions unanswered for Manchester United, as they prepare for their next challenge in the Premier League. With the stakes higher than ever, the squad will need to unite and find a way to turn their fortunes around.
