Mother of Two Dies Following Alleged Botched Nose Surgery

A tragic case has emerged from Huancayo, Peru, where a mother of two, Miriam Mitma Yalli, aged 37, has died following what her family describes as a botched cosmetic nose surgery. The procedure, which took place on November 10, 2023, has raised serious concerns regarding the qualifications of the medical personnel involved.

Miriam’s family claims that she was given an excessive dose of anaesthesia, leading to a cardiac arrest shortly after the procedure. Despite passing pre-operative tests, she experienced severe complications, prompting her admission to intensive care. Days later, she was diagnosed with hypoxic-anoxic leukoencephalopathy, a condition linked to significant oxygen deprivation in the brain. Miriam succumbed to her condition on December 8, 2023, leaving behind two children aged 15 and five.

In the wake of this tragedy, her husband, Daniel Gómez Rufasto, has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Miriam’s death. He, along with other family members, has publicly criticized the surgeon, alleging that he lacked the necessary qualifications for such a delicate operation.

Miriam’s mother expressed her anguish, stating, “My daughter was healthy, just one operation and this happened. I want justice for my daughter.” To further their cause, family members and local supporters held a protest at the Public Ministry headquarters in Hualhuas, demanding accountability and justice for Miriam.

Authorities in Peru are currently awaiting the autopsy results to determine the next steps in the investigation. They are actively gathering testimonies and information to clarify the events that led to Miriam’s sudden health decline.

Recently, another mother, Chloe Mowday, aged 31, fell into a coma following routine plastic surgeries while traveling in Southeast Asia. Eréndira Torres Tiscareño, a mother of three, died during a tummy tuck due to severe liver lacerations at a clinic in Guadalajara, Mexico. Similarly, Natália Cavanellas Thomazella, aged 40, suffered a fatal cardiac arrest after a “three-in-one” plastic surgery operation.

The risks are further compounded by incidents like that of Lygia Fazio, a journalist and model who died after receiving buttock fillers in Brazil, underscoring the urgent need for stricter regulations in the cosmetic surgery industry.
