Nine-Year-Old Girl Dies, Woman Hospitalized in Oxfordshire Incident

A tragic incident in Islip, Oxfordshire, has led to the death of a nine-year-old girl, while a woman remains in critical condition in hospital. The event unfolded on the morning of October 21, 2023, prompting a swift response from police following reports of an assault involving three children at a residential property.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the young girl unresponsive. Despite immediate medical attention, she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. A 49-year-old woman and two other children, a boy and another girl, were taken to hospital for treatment. The two children have since been discharged, while the woman continues to fight for her life.

According to a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police, a post-mortem examination has been conducted, but the cause of death has not yet been determined pending further investigation. The girl’s family is receiving support from specially trained family liaison officers, who have emphasized the family’s need for privacy during this difficult time.

Detective Inspector Amy Fox expressed deep condolences to the family, stating, “First and foremost, our deepest sympathies are with the child’s family, friends and all who knew and loved her. This is an unimaginable tragedy, and we are doing everything we can to support those affected.” Notably, she confirmed that no other individuals are being sought in relation to this incident.

The police have concluded their initial investigation at the property but will maintain a presence in the area throughout the weekend. Detective Inspector Fox encouraged anyone with information or concerns to reach out to officers, highlighting the ongoing sensitivity and complexity of the investigation.

In a separate incident, a murder investigation has been launched in Prestatyn, North Wales, following the discovery of a woman’s body on a street. An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder five hours after the body was found by passers-by. Police have cordoned off the scene on Dawson Drive and are urging the public to avoid the area while investigations continue.

Superintendent Lee Boycott of North Wales Police stated, “Investigations are under way at pace to establish the circumstances of the incident. We understand there will be concern within our local communities and we will continue to keep them informed as we gather more information.”
