Weather maps indicate that temperatures in parts of the UK are expected to drop to a brisk 4°C on August 21, following a series of heatwaves this summer. The country is currently experiencing its fourth heatwave, with temperatures surpassing 30°C in several regions. This summer has been notably hot and dry, leading to declared droughts and hosepipe bans across various areas.

As the month progresses, a significant shift in weather patterns is anticipated. The latest forecasts from WXCharts predict that the cooler temperatures will first be felt in Northern England and Scotland. The lowest readings are expected during the early morning hours, with areas such as Cumbria and Durham reporting temperatures as low as 4°C. In Scotland, places north of Glasgow and Edinburgh may also experience similar conditions.

Throughout the day, temperatures are predicted to rise slightly but will remain in the low to mid-teens across most of the country. Even at midday, temperatures could still be around 4°C in parts of Scotland and 7°C in several English regions. The warmest areas, including London, are expected to reach around 12°C at midday, with a peak of approximately 16°C in England and Wales by 18:00.

The weather outlook for the days following August 21 suggests a continuation of these cooler temperatures, with 4°C forecasted to spread across broader regions of England, Wales, and Scotland. Following this drop, temperatures are not expected to exceed 20°C until August 25.

The Met Office has reported that high-pressure systems will give way to low-pressure fronts, increasing the likelihood of stronger winds and rainfall. Some of this rain could be heavy and thundery, particularly impacting southern and western areas. The official forecast for late August and early September indicates a predominance of unsettled weather, with showers and prolonged rain expected. The potential for heavy rain and strong winds is also a concern, although there may be brief periods of drier weather interspersed.

As the UK prepares for this significant change in weather, residents are advised to stay updated on forecasts and take necessary precautions amid the anticipated drop in temperatures.
