The Kogi State Government has announced that it will commence the strict enforcement of a ban on trailer parks across the state beginning on October 29, 2025. This decision follows a directive from Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, aimed at addressing security concerns linked to these facilities.

According to Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, intelligence reports indicate that certain trailer parks, particularly those located in Zariagi and Osara, have become havens for criminal activity. He emphasized that the government’s initiative is a proactive measure to enhance public safety and prevent potential threats.

“The directive of His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, is clear. From October 29, 2025, the state will begin full enforcement of the ban on trailer parks,” Fanwo stated during a press briefing in Lokoja. He added, “Intelligence at our disposal shows that some of these parks, especially those at Zariagi and Osara, harbor criminals who threaten the peace and security of our people. We have decided to move ahead of the criminals instead of lamenting after lives might have been lost.”

The Commissioner noted that security agencies have been instructed to enforce this order rigorously, warning that anyone who violates the ban will face legal consequences. This enforcement is supported by a recent law signed by Governor Ododo, which prohibits the movement of articulated trucks during daytime hours.

Fanwo called on trailer park operators to comply with the new regulations before the enforcement date, urging residents to support the government’s action in safeguarding their communities. He highlighted that ensuring public safety and security remains the administration’s top priority.

As Kogi State prepares for this significant policy change, the government is taking steps to reassure citizens that their safety is paramount, with the enforcement of the trailer park ban positioned as a critical measure in combating crime.
