Strictly Come Dancing Fans Stunned by Changes in Live Show Format

Fans of Strictly Come Dancing expressed confusion during the second live show of the season, which aired on October 4, 2023. The popular BBC dance competition returned with hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman greeting celebrity contestants in the ballroom. The judging panel, featuring Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Motsi Mabuse, and Craig Revel Horwood, was poised to evaluate the performances ahead of the first elimination scheduled for the following night.
Viewers quickly noted a significant change in the show’s format, as Tess and Claudia did not receive their customary introduction. Traditionally, the presenters make their entrance from backstage to the accompaniment of music from Dave Arch and his orchestra. However, this time they were already on stage, with Claudia stating, “Tonight our fifteen stars perform again and you get to have your say as we open the vote for the very first time.”
The abrupt shift prompted a flurry of reactions on social media. One viewer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to question, “What, no introduction for Tess and Claudia by Alan Dedicoat??!!” Another user lamented, “I hate the way Tess and Claudia don’t get an intro now but the judges do!” Several comments echoed this sentiment, with fans expressing their disappointment over the lack of introductions for the beloved presenters.
Judging Format Changes and Weekend Performances
As the competition progresses, this weekend’s scoring will combine judges’ marks with last week’s scores to determine the rankings. The results programme on October 5 will introduce a new dynamic to the dance-off. Notably, Shirley Ballas will not serve as the head judge for the entire season; instead, the role will rotate among the judges each week. In the event of a deadlock during the dance-off, the decision will rest with the head judge of that week.
In the opening live show, former footballer Karen Carney and her partner Carlos Gu topped the leaderboard, securing 31 points for their energetic Jive to Blondie’s “One Way or Another.” Conversely, Ross King, a presenter on Lorraine, and his partner Jowita Przystał found themselves at the bottom of the rankings, earning just 10 points for their Hollywood-themed Cha Cha Cha to Katy Perry’s “California Gurls.”
As the competition heats up, Strictly Come Dancing continues to captivate audiences, with the latest episodes available for streaming on BBC iPlayer. Fans eagerly await the next performances, hoping for a return to the familiar format while navigating the changes introduced this season.
