Authorities Arrest Organizers of Paramilitary Training Camps in Serbia

Several individuals were arrested in Serbia for allegedly organizing paramilitary training camps aimed at destabilizing situations in Moldova, France, and Germany. This operation, which occurred at the end of September 2023, prompted action from the Serbian Interior Ministry and the Security Intelligence Agency (BIA). Officials from these countries have raised concerns about potential involvement from Russian security services.

On September 26, 2023, the Serbian Interior Ministry announced the arrests of L.P., aged 37, and S.S., aged 47. Both are accused of orchestrating combat training for Moldovan and Romanian nationals. The objective of these training sessions was reportedly to prepare participants for physical confrontations with Moldovan police during the upcoming parliamentary elections on September 28, 2023.

Just three days later, on September 29, BIA collaborated with local police to apprehend another group in Velika Plana. This group, led by M.G., is suspected of engaging in criminal activities related to racial and other forms of discrimination, as well as espionage in Germany and France.

Predrag Petrović, director of research at the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, stated that such paramilitary training camps have been a persistent issue in Serbia.
