The women’s volleyball team from Montenegro is set to compete in a challenging group at the 2024 European Championship, taking place in Gothenburg, Sweden. They will face formidable opponents including the host nation, Sweden, as well as reigning world champions Italy, and competitive teams from France, Slovakia, and Croatia. Montenegro will be making its debut at this prestigious tournament, marking a significant milestone for the nation.

Coach Jovo Caković acknowledged the difficulties ahead, stating, “We have found ourselves in a tough group, but other groups are filled with quality teams as well. There are no easy matches in this championship.” He emphasized the importance of the tournament for the players, noting their opportunity to showcase their skills on such a prominent stage. Caković pointed out that Montenegro has gained insights into the strengths of several teams through their participation in the Golden League.

The players are preparing rigorously for the championship. Caković highlighted the necessity for the team to remain healthy and in top form, stating, “It is crucial that the girls arrive at the championship in good physical condition and that we gather in the strongest possible lineup.”

For team captain Nikoleta Perović, the upcoming championship holds special significance as it represents the pinnacle of her long career with the national team. She commented on the challenging nature of the group, noting, “Italy is the world champion, France is a very strong team, and Sweden has Isabella Haak, one of the best outside hitters in the world. However, every match is an opportunity to demonstrate our character and team spirit.”

The fourth edition of the European Championship will feature 24 teams from August 21 to September 6, 2024. In addition to Gothenburg, the tournament will also be hosted in Istanbul, Brno, and Baku. Turkey will be defending its championship title from the previous tournament.

As Montenegro prepares for this significant event, the anticipation builds for what will surely be a showcase of talent and determination from the team. With each match representing a chance to prove their mettle, the players are eager to represent their country on such an esteemed platform.
