HBO has officially released the first teaser for the much-anticipated prequel series, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” during the New York Comic Con. This new series is set nearly one hundred years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and follows the adventures of a unique duo: Ser Duncan the Tall, portrayed by Peter Dinklage, and his young squire, Egg, played by Dexter Sol Ansel. The tale explores how Egg’s secret identity will significantly shape the fate of the Seven Kingdoms.

The series is based on the beloved novellas by George R. R. Martin, titled “Tales of Dunk and Egg.” The newly released trailer showcases Duncan’s humble beginnings as a knight without a lord, his growing friendship with the enigmatic Egg, and their arrival at a tournament in Ashford Meadow. It is at this tournament that they become entangled in the intricate web of powerful families and dangerous secrets, including the inevitable politics surrounding the Targaryen dynasty.

George R. R. Martin Shares His Enthusiasm

Speaking about the series, George R. R. Martin expressed his excitement in an interview with Collider earlier this year. He praised the first season of “Dunk and Egg,” describing it as outstanding and mentioned that production on the second season is already underway. Martin emphasized the significance of these characters, stating, “They are two characters that are truly special and unusual. They are not what most people would expect in a fantasy story.”

Martin noted that “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will offer a different tone compared to what viewers have come to expect from the “Game of Thrones” franchise. Those anticipating grand battles and dragons might find themselves surprised. He explained, “It’s a bit gentler. A little funnier. I hope the audience will be open to that kind of change.”

Fans of the franchise can look forward to the debut of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” on HBO and Max in January 2026, marking another exciting chapter in the expansive lore of Westeros.
