Montenegro’s President Champions Budva as Tourism Driver

Montenegro’s President, Jakov Milatović, has proclaimed Budva as a pivotal force in the country’s tourism and economic development. During a ceremony commemorating the municipality’s day, he recognized the city’s historical significance and its ongoing transformation into a major tourist destination.

Milatović highlighted Budva’s resilience throughout history, having faced numerous invasions and subsequent restorations. He noted that the city’s foundation is deeply rooted in the commitment of its residents, exemplified by the bravery of the First Bokelj Brigade, which liberated Budva from fascist occupiers on November 22, 1944. This event marked Budva’s emergence as a free city, a sentiment that resonates with its citizens today.

Tourism and Identity at the Forefront

In his address, Milatović emphasized that while Budva currently serves as a catalyst for Montenegro’s tourism and economic growth, the surrounding sea should be viewed not merely as a resource, but as a cultural heritage and an expression of the identity of its inhabitants.
