In a surprising culinary venture, fast-food giants KFC and British bakery chain Greggs have partnered to create a new dish that diverges from KFC’s traditional chicken offerings. This collaboration introduces a sausage roll infused with KFC’s renowned gravy, sparking significant interest among food enthusiasts.

Introducing the Sausage Roll with a Twist

The newly developed dish, described as “seriously flavoursome,” embodies the creativity of both brands. Over the past year, British consumers have reportedly consumed an average of 15,000 litres of KFC gravy and over 1,000,000 Greggs sausage rolls daily, highlighting the popularity of both items. This collaboration aims to merge these beloved foods into a single product.

The sausage roll will be available as part of a three-day promotional tour across the UK, starting on August 7, 2023, at the Southbank Centre in London, followed by stops in Manchester’s St Anne’s Square on August 8 and Newcastle’s Times Square on August 9. During this tour, free samples will be distributed to the public.

In addition to the sausage roll launch, a special sharing bucket will be offered for £10 through Uber Eats, featuring six sausage rolls accompanied by a large serving of KFC gravy. This offer will be available only on August 15 and August 16 in select cities including London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Newcastle.

Fan Inspiration and Unique Ingredients

The collaboration was inspired by fan requests for a combination of KFC’s gravy and Greggs’ sausage rolls. Phoebe Syms, KFC’s brand manager, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “At KFC, we bleed gravy.”

Fiona Mills, Greggs’ brand communications lead, added, “With 96 layers of light puff pastry, our sausage rolls are a true British icon. Why not pair one icon with another?” This sentiment resonates with fans who have long desired this unique flavour combination.

Interestingly, the process of making KFC’s gravy has its own secrets. According to a 2020 documentary titled *Inside KFC At Christmas*, the gravy is crafted using leftover juices and crackling from the chicken fryers, combined with cold water and a proprietary ingredient mix.

Gravy has increasingly become a popular choice for dipping among culinary fans. Discussions on platforms like Reddit reveal a variety of preferences, with some users favouring gravy over traditional condiments like ketchup. This trend highlights the evolving nature of British snack culture, where innovative dipping options are becoming commonplace.

As this collaboration unfolds, KFC and Greggs aim to captivate a wide audience eager to sample this novel creation. The initiative not only showcases the strengths of both companies but also reflects the changing landscape of fast food in the UK.
