Webinar Addresses Communication Challenges in Renewable Energy Systems
A recent webinar hosted by HMS Networks focused on overcoming communication challenges in co-located renewable energy projects. Titled “Inside CAN Networks: Solving Core Communication Challenges in Co-located Renewables and BESS,” the session highlighted the increasing complexity of renewable energy projects, particularly those integrating battery energy storage systems (BESS) with wind and solar facilities.
As the shift towards renewable energy accelerates, co-location of BESS with renewable sources is becoming a strategic approach to enhance project value and resilience. This integration allows operators to store excess energy generated during peak production times and release it during low generation periods or when market prices rise. Such flexibility promotes grid stability, generates additional revenue streams, and improves overall system performance.
Communication Issues in Co-located Projects
While BESS play a crucial role in balancing grid demands and facilitating renewable integration, many projects encounter significant communication obstacles. The complexity arises from large, distributed systems that often incorporate components from various vendors. These systems must communicate effectively to function optimally, yet Controller Area Network (CAN) technologies frequently face interoperability issues, integration challenges, and unreliable data flows.
During the webinar, industry experts discussed strategies to tackle these core communication hurdles. They emphasized the importance of developing robust communication infrastructures that not only accelerate deployment but also reduce maintenance costs and maximize the efficiency of renewable energy systems. The session catered to engineers and maintenance technicians grappling with CAN communication challenges in their operations.
Insights from Industry Experts
The webinar featured key insights from Yuan Lee, EMEA channel manager at HMS, and Seth Thomas, Americas sales director at HMS, with moderation by Andy Colthorpe, editor at a leading energy publication. Attendees were provided with practical solutions to avoid common mistakes in the planning, setup, installation, and maintenance of renewable energy systems, including BESS, wind power, and smart grid technologies.
Participants learned how to effectively navigate the complexities of integrating these systems, ensuring they are equipped to make their renewable energy projects future-ready. The session included a live Q&A, allowing attendees to seek tailored advice on their specific communication challenges.
The recorded webinar and presentation slides are available for registration on the HMS Networks website, providing ongoing access to valuable knowledge for those in the renewable energy sector.
