Better Strangers, a progressive band based in Miami, has unveiled a new instrumental EP titled Live At Gramps, marking a significant departure in their musical style. The trio, comprising Nic Collins on drums, guitarist Joey Rodriguez, and bassist Yang Waingarten, has transitioned toward a more complex and instrumental progressive sound following the departure of their former vocalist, deCasa, also known as Luis Santiago.

The release of Live At Gramps features four tracks that showcase the band’s commitment to intricate, instrumental compositions. Produced by renowned producer David Bottrill, known for his work with major acts like Tool and King Crimson, this EP reflects a deliberate shift away from vocal-centric music. The band stated, “Having released music under different band names with different singers, while playing all around the world despite an inconsistent lineup, Better Strangers decided to lean into denser, more complex instrumental compositions that wouldn’t rely on vocal hooks.”

The EP features four tracks: Grifter, Dedalus, We/Heal, and Sleepwalking. Alongside the EP, the band has also released a live performance video recorded at the iconic Miami venue, Gramps, where they performed all four tracks, as well as two additional songs, Ashes and Drinking The Tool-Aid.

Upcoming Shows in Florida

To celebrate their new direction, Better Strangers will perform three local shows in Florida. The tour begins on November 6, 2023, at Signal in Gainesville. They will follow this with a performance at Gramps in Miami on November 7, and conclude at New World Music Hall in Tampa on November 9.

The band’s evolution over the past decade has involved significant musical experimentation, which they describe as a complete reinvention rather than a focus on live performances. This new chapter aims to fill the gap left by their previous lineup changes and to establish a unique artistic niche.

Tickets for the upcoming shows are available through the band’s official channels, allowing fans to experience their new sound live. As Better Strangers forges ahead, they invite listeners to join them on this transformative journey in the world of progressive music.
