Confusion Erupts Over Fake Elon Musk Tweet Linked to Epstein Emails

A fabricated screenshot of a tweet attributed to Elon Musk has sparked widespread confusion online, coinciding with the release of thousands of emails related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The confusion intensified after the US House Oversight Committee made public approximately 20,000 pages of emails on November 12, 2023.

The controversy began with an email from 2018 that featured a discussion between the Epstein brothers. In the exchange, Mark Epstein suggested reaching out to Donald Trump’s adviser, Steve Bannon, to inquire whether Russian President Vladimir Putin had compromising photographs of Trump. As interest in this email grew, a fake screenshot of a tweet allegedly from Musk began circulating, implying a connection between Trump and the term “Bubba.”

In response to the surge of inquiries regarding the authenticity of the tweet, many users turned to X’s artificial intelligence engine, Grok, for verification. Grok confirmed that the tweet is false, stating there is no evidence that Musk ever made such a claim. Furthermore, no reputable media outlet has reported on the existence of this tweet.

Following his resignation from the Trump administration, where he served as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, Musk has frequently criticized Trump’s policies. These include Trump’s proposal of a “One Big Beautiful Bill” and the suspension of releasing Epstein-related files. In a now-deleted post on X, Musk suggested that Trump was mentioned in the Epstein files, questioning, “How can people be expected to have faith in Trump if he won’t release the Epstein files?”

The White House has denied Musk’s insinuations regarding Trump, with President Joe Biden labeling Musk as “a man who has lost his mind.” Former Epstein lawyer David Schoen stated that his client had no incriminating information about Trump prior to his death. Musk has joined calls from various lawmakers urging the release of all remaining Epstein files, asserting that the public deserves to know the truth.

Despite these calls for transparency, investigators maintain that some documents remain sealed due to ongoing legal procedures and to protect victims. The White House has not provided a firm commitment about whether Trump will meet with Epstein victims following the release of the emails. Representative Ro Khanna, a Democratic lawmaker, emphasized that the efforts to disclose the remaining Epstein files are not specifically aimed at Trump.

Khanna announced plans to ask Trump to meet with Epstein victims at the White House, stating, “So it is not about Donald Trump. I don’t even know how involved Trump was. There are a lot of people who are involved who have to be held accountable.”

As this situation unfolds, the White House has refrained from confirming any meeting, even as many Epstein victims who have come forward are expected to be in Washington, D.C., on November 18, 2023. A White House spokesperson criticized the administration’s opponents, claiming they are “only pretending to care about these victims now as they attempt to score political points against Trump.”

As the narrative surrounding the Epstein emails develops, the interplay of misinformation and political maneuvering highlights the complexity of this ongoing issue.
