Major Cast Changes at Coronation Street: Exits and Returns in 2025

As 2025 unfolds, significant changes are reshaping the cast of Coronation Street, one of the UK’s longest-running soaps. Several familiar faces are departing, while new characters and returning favorites are set to make their mark on the beloved series.
Current Exits and Departures
This year has already seen notable exits, including Max Turner, portrayed by Paddy Bever, who is now serving a six-year prison sentence. Yasmeen Metcalfe, played by Shelley King, has also departed for a new life in London. In a dramatic farewell, Daisy Midgeley (played by Charlotte Jordan) left the cobbles in a taxi.
Additionally, the show has introduced new characters, such as Carl Webster (played by Jonathan Howard), the estranged brother of Kevin and Debbie Webster (portrayed by Michael Le Vell and Sue Devaney), along with Theo Silverton (played by James Cartwright), a new love interest for Todd Grimshaw (played by Gareth Pierce).
Returning Characters
Fans can look forward to the return of Eva Price, as Catherine Tyldesley reprises her role full-time. Eva, who last appeared in 2018, is set to return in Autumn 2025, potentially taking over as the new landlady of the Rovers. Her storyline promises to be captivating, especially regarding her daughter Susie and her relationship with Toyah Habeeb (played by Georgia Taylor).
Another returning character is Christina Boyd, portrayed by Amy Robbins, who will be back in August 2025, continuing her villainous ways alongside her daughter Daisy. Bethany Platt (played by Lucy Fallon) is also making a return in October after her maternity leave, much to the excitement of fans.
Executive producer Iain MacLeod has hinted at the possibility of Gail Platt (played by Helen Worth) returning in the future, although specifics remain uncertain. MacLeod mentioned, “There might be times in my future where I’ll come back,” suggesting an open door for her character’s return.
Significant Departures
As some cast members return, others are leaving. Sally Ann Matthews has confirmed her departure after 39 years of portraying Jenny Connor. Sharing a reflective post on Instagram, she expressed gratitude for her time on the show, stating, “I was supposed to stay for five months but ended up doing an extra ten years because I loved it so much.”
Additionally, Debbie Webster’s exit is set to be particularly emotional as the character, played by Sue Devaney, faces a heartbreaking storyline involving dementia. The narrative is expected to resonate deeply with viewers, with insiders noting, “There will not be a dry eye in the house.”
In a surprising announcement, Daniel Brocklebank confirmed he will depart the show after 11 years in the role of Billy Mayhew. He described his time on Coronation Street as a significant part of his life, stating, “I have adored every minute I have been in that building.”
Future Developments
As the show continues to evolve, producer Kate Brooks has hinted at more surprises, stating that several familiar faces will return to cause chaos in 2025. Additionally, significant budget cuts at ITV may lead to further cast reductions, with reports indicating up to ten percent of cast members could be affected as part of a £15 million budget reduction. Currently, Coronation Street boasts 84 permanent cast members, with many on per-episode contracts.
Coronation Street airs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 20:00 on ITV1, and episodes are available for streaming from 07:00 on ITVX. As the storyline unfolds, viewers can expect excitement, drama, and emotional farewells in the coming months.
