Rose Ayling-Ellis, the BAFTA-winning actress known for her groundbreaking work, is set to celebrate the launch of her first children’s book, Marvellous Messages, during a special event at the Kent coast. The former star of EastEnders will engage with fans on November 15, 2023, at the Quarterhouse in Folkestone as part of the Folkestone Book Festival.

Ayling-Ellis will discuss the narrative of her book, which features her cat, Halo, and the whimsical tour guide Perky the Pigeon. Together, they embark on a time-travelling journey that explores the evolution of communication. The event promises an interactive experience, including a quiz and an opportunity for attendees to learn British Sign Language (BSL) alongside Ayling-Ellis.

In addition to sharing insights about her book, the actress will reflect on her remarkable career highlights. She made history as the first deaf presenter of the Paralympics and won the glitterball trophy on the reality dance competition Strictly Come Dancing in 2021. Her acting repertoire also includes a notable two-year role as Frankie Lewis in EastEnders, an Olivier Award-nominated performance in As You Like It at Soho Place, and a leading role in the ITV drama Code of Silence alongside actors Andrew Buchan and Charlotte Ritchie.

The Folkestone Book Festival runs from November 13 to November 23, featuring a diverse lineup of speakers. Among them is Amanda Knox, who will discuss her new memoir, Free: My Search for Meaning, detailing her wrongful conviction in the 2007 murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher. Other notable guests include literary figures such as Rupert Everett, Joanne Harris, Will Young, Harry Baker, Mark Haddon, Irvine Welsh, and Sabrina Ghayour.

The festival has been curated by local writer Sophie Haydock, aiming to foster a vibrant literary community. Tickets for Ayling-Ellis’s book talk can be purchased online, and the event is expected to last approximately one hour. With interactive elements, it promises to be an exciting occasion for both young readers and their families.
