Zoe Ball Expresses Interest in Hosting Strictly Come Dancing
Zoe Ball has publicly expressed her interest in replacing Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman as hosts of the popular television show Strictly Come Dancing. Following the announcement that both presenters will step down, Ball took to her podcast to share her excitement about potentially returning to the series, which has captivated audiences since its inception.
During a recent episode of her podcast, Ball told co-host Jo Whiley, “I think everyone would like to do that job. It’s an amazing job, it’s the best Saturday night show.” She reflected on the joy the show brings to viewers, mentioning notable contestants such as Ellie and Vito, and Lewis with Katya, stating, “Whoever takes over will have the best gig in the world.”
Ball, who previously hosted the spin-off show It Takes Two, is a familiar face to Strictly audiences. She stepped into the role in 2011 after Winkleman transitioned to the main show. Ball also competed in the 2005 series of Strictly, showcasing her deep connection to the programme. She left It Takes Two in 2021 after a decade, marking a significant chapter in her career.
Potential Contenders for the Role
Zoe Ball is currently one of the frontrunners to take over the hosting duties. Other potential candidates include Rylan Clark, who has also presented It Takes Two, as well as Janette Manrara and Fleur East, who are currently co-hosting the spin-off.
The announcement of Daly and Winkleman’s departure came as a surprise to many fans. The pair, who have been integral to the show’s success since 2004, revealed their decision through a joint statement on Instagram. They expressed their gratitude, stating, “We have loved working as a duo and hosting Strictly has been an absolute dream. We were always going to leave together and now feels like the right time.”
Ball’s interest in the role underscores her commitment to the series and its legacy. She has previously guest-presented Strictly when Winkleman was on leave in 2014, further solidifying her credentials within the show.
A Return to Primetime for Zoe Ball
Should Ball assume the hosting position, it would mark her return to a primetime BBC slot following her departure from the Radio 2 Breakfast Show in 2024. When she took over the show in 2019, she became the first woman to present the programme solo and quickly became one of the BBC’s highest-paid stars. Her exit was unexpected, as she cited a desire to spend more time with her children and pursue new projects. Despite this, she admitted to questioning her decision at times.
In the podcast, Whiley suggested that a dream presenting partnership would be Ball and comedian Alan Carr, whose popularity has surged following his stint on The Celebrity Traitors. Talks are already underway for Carr to host his own chat show, highlighting the dynamic landscape of television presenting.
As the search for new hosts begins, Zoe Ball’s enthusiasm and experience position her as a strong candidate. Her appreciation for the outgoing presenters, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, reflects the respect and admiration within the industry. “I just want to say to the girls, bravo. I think they’re both fab and they’re going to be a tough act to follow on that show,” Ball noted, acknowledging the significant contributions of her predecessors.
With the future of Strictly Come Dancing’s hosting team in a state of transition, fans are eager to see who will step into the spotlight next. The series continues to be a beloved fixture in Saturday night entertainment, ensuring that the search for its next host will draw significant attention.
