A mother of seven, Michelle Bailey, passed away at the age of 53 on October 18, 2023, following a brief battle with cancer. Her death comes just a year after her husband, Craig Bailey, died from heart and kidney failure, leaving their children grappling with profound loss.

Michelle was diagnosed with cancer in July, after initially being thought to have suffered a stroke. Medical examinations revealed the presence of five tumors in her body, including in her brain and lungs. Despite receiving care from Pilgrims Hospice during her final weeks, she succumbed to the illness, surrounded by family in their home in Margate, Kent.

Family’s Heartbreak and Struggles

The Bailey children, the youngest being just 10 years old, are now left to navigate life without their parents. Megan Watson, 22, expressed her heartbreak, saying, “It’s no age at all to lose both their parents.” She mentioned that the youngest two boys, Jimmy and Jenson, face additional challenges as they both have special educational needs, making the situation even more complicated for them.

“The family has been through so much loss and heartbreak,” Megan added. “We were still grieving our father, and now to add our mother too. We all watched our mum deteriorate until she was no longer here with us.” The siblings are now united in their grief, recognizing that “all we have now is each other.”

A Legacy of Love and Support

Michelle’s health issues began with chest pain, which doctors initially attributed to infections. However, after being rushed to QEQM Hospital for suspected stroke symptoms, further investigations revealed the devastating cancer diagnosis. Her tumors were located in critical areas, including her lungs and brain.

Megan’s partner, Layla Bond, highlighted the struggle the children face as they come to terms with their loss: “Having a year or more longer with their mum would have made a lot of difference to them.”

Michelle was described by many as a “force of nature.” She was known for her vibrant personality and her ability to light up any room. Megan fondly recalled how her mother loved family outings, particularly evenings spent playing bingo. “She was the life of any soul and party, always enjoyed dancing her heart out,” Megan said.

In the wake of Michelle’s passing, the family has initiated a fundraiser to cover funeral expenses and provide temporary financial support. The GoFundMe campaign aims to ensure that the children have the resources they need during this challenging time. Layla Bond stated, “It’s to help raise money towards her funeral costs and to give her the send-off she deserves.”

Michelle is survived by her seven children, including Jordan (25), Mason (21), Marshall (18), Miles (17), Jimmy-Jay (12), and Jenson (10). Their best friend, Rainy, has also been a significant source of support for the family during this difficult period.

As the family faces the future without both parents, they remember Michelle not only for her strength but also for her unwavering love and commitment to her children. The grief they share is profound, yet they find solace in their bond, determined to support one another through the trials that lie ahead.
