Shirley Ballas Discusses Menopause Struggles and Life Changes
Shirley Ballas has candidly shared her experiences with menopause, describing how it plunged her into a “dark place” where she felt isolated and without anyone to confide in. The 65-year-old head judge of Strictly Come Dancing revealed her struggles during an appearance on the morning television show, This Morning. She discussed the profound impact that menopause symptoms had on her professional life, highlighting a pivotal moment when a colleague approached her to express concern about her change in behaviour.
Ballas recalled the moment as a significant “wake-up call.” It prompted her to seek support from her son, who encouraged her to consult a medical professional. Following his advice, she explored treatment options, including bioidentical hormones, leading to a transformative change in her life.
“I did bioidentical hormones and my life changed forever,” Ballas stated during the interview. She emphasized the importance of regular health checks, mentioning, “I do that check once a year, I get my hormones checked just to make sure even at 65 that everything’s working and functioning.”
Ballas’ openness about her health challenges is significant in raising awareness around menopause, a topic often shrouded in taboo. Her experience resonates with many women who face similar struggles.
The discussion on This Morning highlights a growing trend of public figures sharing personal health journeys. Such revelations not only foster understanding but also encourage conversations about women’s health issues, making them less isolating for those affected.
Ballas’ story serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking help and maintaining open lines of communication regarding health matters. Her path to recovery illustrates the potential benefits of appropriate medical interventions and the need for women to prioritize their health, especially during transitional life stages like menopause.
