Magic Dragon Brewing Triumphs with Eight Awards at Indie Beer Cymru
Magic Dragon Brewing, based in Wrexham, has achieved significant recognition at the inaugural Indie Beer Cymru awards, securing a total of eight prestigious accolades. The event took place in Haverfordwest and showcased the best of independent brewing across Wales.
Among the standout winners, the brewery’s House of Coffee porter garnered Gold in the Speciality Amber to Dark Beer category. This exceptional brew was also named the third overall Champion Cask Beer of Wales, marking a noteworthy achievement for the company. Additionally, the Nectaron IPA impressed the judges, earning Gold for Best Keg IPA and claiming the title of Category Champion.
Other offerings from Magic Dragon Brewing also received accolades. The Dolphin IPA, Dr. G IPA, and Hufen Lager each secured Silver awards, while the Old Magic Mild and Obsidian Stout received Bronze. This impressive performance highlights the brewery’s commitment to quality and innovation in the craft beer sector.
Recognition and Future Opportunities
The Indie Beer Cymru Awards are organized by the Society of Independent Brewers and Associates (SIBA), which emphasizes the growing significance of independent breweries in the UK. Anneli Baxter, chair of SIBA competitions, praised the overall quality of the entries, stating, “The quality of beers across the competition was incredibly high, so huge congratulations to all the great breweries named winners in their style category. With so many great beers in the running, you should be truly proud of taking home the win.”
This year’s awards took place just before the first Indie Beer Cymru festival, which opened in Haverfordwest, further celebrating the success of independent breweries. Winning beers from the competition, including those from Magic Dragon Brewing, will be featured at the festival and will compete in the national finals scheduled for early next year.
Magic Dragon Brewing operates from The Plassey Holiday Park, located just outside Wrexham. The brewery also has a taproom situated on Charles Street in Wrexham city centre, allowing local enthusiasts to enjoy their award-winning brews directly from the source.
With its recent successes, Magic Dragon Brewing is poised to continue its upward trajectory in the craft beer industry, contributing to the vibrant landscape of independent brewing in Wales and beyond.
