Oakland Holdings Unveils Ambitious Plans for Bangor Waterfront

Plans for a transformative redevelopment of Bangor’s waterfront have officially moved forward as Belfast-based developer Oakland Holdings has taken control of the long-awaited regeneration scheme. Striking new visuals have been released, offering a detailed perspective on the future of Queens Parade, which is poised to become a vibrant hub in this coastal city.
The redevelopment aims to create modern public spaces and mixed-use commercial areas, alongside residential components and a revitalised seafront promenade. The project is designed to draw both locals and visitors, ensuring year-round engagement with the waterfront. The announcement follows the completion of legal agreements with The Crown Estate on June 24, 2023, which solidified Oakland’s leadership role in the project.
Gareth Graham, a prominent developer and leader of Oakland Holdings, expressed optimism about the future of Bangor. “We are delighted to announce The Crown Estate has now signed all outstanding legal agreements and as of 24th June Oakland Holdings has acquired Farrans’ shareholding in Bangor Marine Ltd. This formalises Oakland’s partnership in this transformative project,” he stated. Graham acknowledged the community’s desire for immediate progress, emphasizing their commitment to revitalising Bangor’s economic and cultural vibrancy.
Oakland Holdings, known for its successful projects such as Merchant Square and Room2 in Belfast, is now collaborating closely with the Karl Group, Ards & North Down Borough Council, and the Department for Communities to advance the Bangor project. Guy Hollis, a representative from Oakland Holdings, noted the importance of sustainability in their approach. “Transforming ambitious plans into reality, while prioritising sustainability, is what we do. We will apply this determination to Queens Parade,” he remarked.
The project has faced delays, which have caused frustration among local businesses and civic stakeholders. Graham addressed these concerns, assuring the community that their team is dedicated to the long-overdue re-imagining of Queens Parade. “We are committed to delivering a fitting waterfront development that returns Bangor to its status as a premier coastal destination for residents and visitors,” he said.
As Oakland Holdings moves forward, the focus remains on creating a dynamic and inviting space that will enhance Bangor’s appeal. This ambitious initiative not only aims to rejuvenate the waterfront but also to set a precedent for sustainable urban development in the region, ultimately benefiting the local economy and community.
