Opposition Silence on Crime Fight Criticized by Leković

In a recent statement, Momčilo Leković, a representative of the Democratic Party, highlighted the widespread recognition of efforts by the Police Administration in combating organized crime. He noted that support for these initiatives is coming from various quarters, though notably absent from the opposition, certain suspended police officers, and specific media outlets linked to Aca Mijajlović and Milo Đukanović.
Leković pointed out that while praise for the police’s actions is abundant, the opposition’s reticence stems from self-interest. “It is not easy for them,” he said, suggesting that these groups would support the fight against crime if it did not threaten their own financial backers and associates. He emphasized that the chain of power and protection that has been established over decades is now facing significant challenges.
The politician expressed his belief that the vocal opposition is not motivated by a desire to uphold justice and institutional integrity, but rather to protect their own interests. He stated, “They are loud not to defend justice and institutions, but to defend themselves.”
In his remarks, Leković extended his congratulations to Director Šćepanović and all members of the Police Administration and security sector. He encouraged them to continue their work with strength and determination, affirming that they have the support of the citizens.
The ongoing battle against organized crime remains a critical issue, with significant implications for the governance and safety of the region. The contrasting responses from various political factions underscore the complexities involved in addressing crime while navigating personal and political interests.
