Sherrie Hewson, the beloved star of the hit series Benidorm, has addressed ongoing rumors about a potential return to the show while also expressing her eagerness to revisit her role in Coronation Street. Turning 75 in September 2023 has not slowed her down; instead, she is gearing up for new projects, including a podcast titled Very Very Sherrie, set to launch next month.

Hewson is enthusiastic about the possibility of reprising her iconic role as Joyce Temple-Savage in Benidorm. She stated, “We’re always the last to know when it comes to Benidorm! But wouldn’t it be brilliant? It still gets great ratings, you know; I sit and watch it all the time!” Despite not having confirmation about the show’s return, she remains hopeful and ready to jump back into her television career.

Reflecting on her time in Benidorm, Hewson praised the show’s creator, Derren Litten, for crafting strong female characters. She remarked, “Joyce was a brilliantly written part. Derren Litten could really write for women, and you can’t say that about a lot of people.” Her fond memories include spending five months each year filming in the sun-soaked Spanish resort, which she describes as “incredible.”

While she is keen to return to Benidorm, Hewson also expressed her desire to revisit her character Maureen Naylor in Coronation Street. She mentioned the potential for collaboration with fellow actor Tony Maudsley, who played Kenneth in Benidorm. “Could you imagine?” she said, highlighting her excitement about the idea.

Although reality TV appears to be a different path, Hewson is less interested in participating in shows like I’m A Celebrity. She believes contestants should be fully committed to the challenges presented, stating, “If you’re going to say that you will do the jungle, you’ve got to do it. You can’t go in there and say ‘well, I’m not doing this, and I’m not doing that.’” Acknowledging the challenges of the show, she advised future contestants to consider their readiness before participating.

As she embraces her 75th year, Hewson remains undeterred by societal expectations of retirement. Instead, she is focused on creating content that resonates with audiences. Her podcast, Very Very Sherrie, promises to be an honest and engaging platform where she can express herself freely. She has indicated that it will feature conversations that encourage positivity and forward-thinking, saying, “We need joy! We need to look to the future.”

Hewson’s perspective on aging is refreshing. She recalls her mother’s advice about age and self-acceptance, emphasizing the importance of living life fully. “My mum always said, ‘What’s the alternative – you could be dead. What are you going to do about it? Nothing!’” This philosophy informs her approach to her podcast and her life.

The upcoming podcast will be a twice-monthly show featuring notable guests, aiming to provide listeners with authentic and enjoyable content. Hewson is ready to share her journey and connect with her audience like never before. “For years I’ve been told what I can and can’t say – now I finally get to choose who I talk to and what we talk about. It’s liberating,” she concluded.

Sherrie Hewson’s initiatives reflect her resilience and enthusiasm for life, proving that age is merely a number when it comes to pursuing one’s passions. As she prepares to launch Very Very Sherrie, fans of her work can anticipate a candid and entertaining exploration of life’s joys and challenges.
