Simon Cowell Faces Criticism Over New Tropical Fish Collection

Simon Cowell recently shared updates about his pets, including heartwarming photos of his four dogs: Squiddly, Diddly, Daisy, and Pebbles. However, the introduction of a new addition to his menagerie—a large fish tank filled with tropical fish—has sparked concern among some fans regarding fish conservation practices.
In a series of social media posts, the Britain’s Got Talent judge showcased his new aquatic companions, which he affectionately named, including Bridget, Flash, Slow-mo, and Jacques, a shrimp living among them. Cowell’s enthusiasm for these pets resonated with many of his followers, but it also prompted a critical response from individuals worried about the impact of the tropical fish trade.
One concerned fan, residing in Kenya, expressed distress over the methods used to capture tropical fish for the pet trade. The fan wrote, “Aaaah Simon sorry, this is not great news. I live in Kenya and the company who fish tropical fish out of our sea… well half of the fish in transit die before arrival and there are so few fish left here because of this Dutch company.” They further alleged that this company has bribed local authorities, creating a situation where there are no restrictions on the number of fish removed from the ocean. Such concerns highlight ongoing issues within the fishing industry and the importance of sustainable practices.
Despite the criticism, many fans responded positively to Cowell’s latest pet addition. One admirer stated, “Aww love you forever Simon, we admire your love for all animals,” while another commented on the beauty of the fish tank, calling it “like looking at the bottom of the ocean.” The joy these pets bring to Cowell’s life is evident, with numerous fans praising the bond he shares with them.
Cowell has a long history of showcasing his love for animals. Last year, he adopted his dog Pebbles, and shared adorable moments of his son Eric bonding with the new puppy. In a post featuring their interactions, Cowell simply captioned it with the word “LOVE.” Fans quickly flocked to the comments section, with one noting, “A boy and his dog!! They will be best buddies!!”
In a 2015 interview with Glamour, Cowell reflected on the happiness his dogs have brought him, stating, “I have always loved dogs but had no idea how much happiness they would bring to my life.” His passion for animals continues to resonate with his audience, even as concerns about animal welfare and conservation emerge.
As Simon Cowell continues to expand his family of pets, the balance between personal joy and environmental responsibility remains a topic of discussion among his followers. His journey with animals reflects both the joy they bring to life and the serious considerations involved in pet ownership and wildlife conservation.
