Vuković Demands Urgent Clarification from State Prosecutor’s Office
In a recent press statement, Ivan Vuković, Deputy President of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and Member of the Parliament of Montenegro, called for an urgent response from the State Prosecutor’s Office regarding allegations made by former Special State Prosecutor Milivoje Katnić. Vuković expressed concern over claims that Miloš Šoškić, a special prosecutor, attempted to fabricate charges against him, implicating him in an organized crime group.
Vuković’s statement addressed the reality of political life in Montenegro, where public accusations can arise without legal repercussions, potentially harming an individual’s personal and professional reputation. He stated that he was taken aback by the media reports and emphasized the need for clarity from Šoškić and the State Prosecutor’s Office.
The Deputy President further noted that similar accusations had been made against him recently by another member of the Montenegrin Parliament, prompting him to file a criminal complaint for false reporting with the High State Prosecutor’s Office. He provided context by mentioning a contract related to road construction, signed on July 12, 2017, between the Capital City of Cetinje and the Ministry of Defence, which has come under scrutiny.
Vuković clarified that he was not politically active at the time of signing the contract, having spent much of 2017 in the United States pursuing postdoctoral studies. He highlighted the absurdity of the political climate in Montenegro, stating that the harsh political confrontations have led to a situation where even the past can be manipulated for present-day accusations.
He remarked, “After the recent deportation, it seems we are now expected to teleport as well.” This comment underscores the increasingly surreal nature of political discourse in the region, as Vuković aims to position himself firmly on what he believes to be the right side of history during challenging times for Montenegro.
As the situation unfolds, Vuković’s call for an urgent clarification from the State Prosecutor’s Office reflects broader concerns regarding the integrity of political processes in Montenegro and the potential for misuse of power.
