Chinese President Xi Jinping met with U.S. President Donald Trump today in Busan, South Korea, to discuss the current state of bilateral relations between their two nations. During the meeting, Xi emphasized that the relationship has largely maintained stability due to their shared leadership, marking a significant achievement for both countries.

Xi noted that China and the United States have become partners and friends, which he described as both a historical milestone and a practical necessity. He acknowledged that while both nations have different national conditions, some differences are inevitable. “As the two largest economies in the world, occasional misunderstandings are perfectly normal,” he stated.

Economic Growth and Cooperation

Amid various global challenges, Xi characterized himself and Trump as “helmsmen” who must steer their nations in a stable direction. He pointed out that China’s economy has shown a positive trend, with a growth rate of 5.2 percent recorded in the first three quarters of the year. “The Chinese economy is a vast ocean, with immense size, elasticity, and potential. We are confident in our ability to respond to various risks and challenges,” he remarked.

During the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, a proposal for national economic and social development over the next five years was ratified. Xi highlighted that for the past 70 years, China has consistently focused on its development while sharing opportunities with other countries worldwide. “We have never sought to provoke conflict or replace others; instead, we have concentrated on our own development,” he added.

Looking ahead, Xi pledged that China would continue to deepen reforms and broaden its opening to the world, which he believes will create significant opportunities for U.S.-China cooperation. He also mentioned that trade teams from both countries recently held consultations in Kuala Lumpur, reaching a basic consensus on resolving key ongoing issues. “The two sides should begin implementing the agreed details as soon as possible to stabilize bilateral relations and the world economy,” he urged.

Future Relations and Global Cooperation

Trump expressed his honor in meeting with Xi, describing China as a great nation and Xi as a highly respected leader and longtime friend. “We have always had a good relationship. U.S.-China relations have historically been very strong and will be even better in the future,” he said. Trump expressed optimism about the potential for both countries to achieve significant accomplishments together on the global stage.

He pointed out that China is the largest trading partner of the United States, reinforcing his belief that the two nations can work collaboratively towards mutual success. Looking ahead, China is set to host an informal meeting of APEC leaders in 2026, while the United States will host the G20 summit. “We look forward to the success of both sides,” Trump concluded.

The discussions in Busan underscore the importance of maintaining stable and constructive relations between the two superpowers, especially in light of recent challenges in their trade relationship. Both leaders appear committed to fostering cooperation as a cornerstone of their diplomatic and economic interactions moving forward.
