Aberystwyth Town Faces Cardiff Draconians in Key League Match
Aberystwyth Town will return to league action on August 26, 2023, with a crucial away match against Cardiff Draconians. The team, under the guidance of manager Callum McKenzie, is poised to benefit from the return of key players, including Reece Thompson, who is back after serving his suspension. McKenzie hopes that a week off has also allowed players like Zac Hartley, Star Mayemba, Ethan O’Toole, and Tyrone Ofori to recover from early-season injuries.
Cardiff Draconians, newly promoted to the JD Cymru South, are looking to build on a solid start to their season. Last year, the team excelled in the Ardal South West division, finishing with an impressive record of 20 wins in 30 matches and only four losses. Under the leadership of manager Nana Baah, the Draconians have made strategic signings, including experienced players such as Dan Bowen and Harry Treharne. They also retained Sam Roberts, who was the second-top scorer in the Ardal South West last season.
Currently, the Draconians sit in 12th place in the league, trailing Aberystwyth Town by five points and five places, having played one less game. Their confidence is buoyed by their recent victory over Pontypridd United on August 22, 2023, despite a setback in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup where they were eliminated by Newport City.
This upcoming match will take place at The Orange Llama Stadium, also known as Lydstep Park, located in Gabalfa, CF14 2ST. Fans will find admission prices set at £6 for adults, £3 for concessions, and free entry for those under 16. Both cash and card payments will be accepted at the venue.
Supporters of Aberystwyth Town can join the Southsiders fan train, which will depart for Llandaf Station. Fans are encouraged to gather at the Railway Inn from 12:30 PM onwards, creating an electric atmosphere ahead of the match.
As both teams prepare for this significant clash, it promises to be an engaging encounter as Aberystwyth Town aims to solidify its position in the league while Cardiff Draconians seeks to continue their positive momentum in their inaugural season at this level.
