Bezzecchi Secures Pole Position for Valencia MotoGP Sprint Race
Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia claimed pole position for both the sprint race and the Valencia Grand Prix, marking the final round of the 2023 MotoGP season. The 27-year-old Italian achieved this feat after setting a new lap record of **1 minute 28.83 seconds** during Saturday’s qualifying session. His time narrowly edged out Alex Marquez from Ducati-Gresini, who finished just **0.02 seconds** behind.
Bezzecchi’s performance continues a remarkable trend, following his dominant victory in Portugal the previous weekend. “It was super cool. I had a lot of fun in that lap,” Bezzecchi remarked, celebrating his fifth pole of the season. His strong showing places him in a favorable position as he aims for another top finish in Valencia.
Qualifying Highlights and Grid Positioning
Joining Bezzecchi and Marquez on the front row is fellow Italian Fabio Di Giannantonio, who rides for Ducati-VR46 and secured third place in qualifying. The second row features promising riders, including Raul Fernandez of Trackhouse-Aprilia, Pedro Acosta from KTM, and 2021 world champion Fabio Quartararo of Yamaha.
In a surprising turn, two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia failed to advance past the first qualifying session due to a mechanical issue with his Ducati. As a result, he will start from **16th position** on the grid. Additionally, last year’s champion Jorge Martin, who recently returned from injury sustained in a crash in Japan, will begin the race in **17th place**. Martin has missed **14 of the 22 races this season** and aims to use this race to gather valuable experience for the upcoming year.
Absent Champions and Race Dynamics
The current world champion, Marc Marquez, will not participate in the Valencia Grand Prix due to a shoulder injury sustained in a crash earlier this year in Indonesia. His absence leaves a significant gap in the competition, as fans and fellow competitors alike await his return.
The sprint race is scheduled to take place at **14:00 GMT** on Sunday, promising an exciting showdown as riders vie for crucial points in the championship standings. With Bezzecchi’s record-setting pace and the pressure of the season’s finale, the race is poised to deliver thrilling action for MotoGP enthusiasts around the world.
