Montenegro Cancels Residency for 19 Foreign Nationals Amid Crackdown

Montenegrin authorities have canceled residency permits for 19 foreign nationals as part of an ongoing operation aimed at ensuring legal compliance in the country. This initiative, known as “Stranac” (Foreigner), also resulted in the initiation of the termination of temporary residency for five additional individuals.

According to the Police Administration, a total of 90 misdemeanor charges have been filed in connection with these actions. Furthermore, 23 decisions regarding the return of individuals to their home countries have been issued. The police reported that three individuals were forcibly removed from Montenegro, while another three were officially expelled.

Increased Enforcement Actions

The police’s intensified efforts to monitor the legality of foreign nationals’ movement, residence, and employment activities across Montenegro led to a total of 143 enforcement measures being implemented recently. The Police Administration emphasized that these measures are part of a broader strategy to regulate foreign presence in the country.

Since the beginning of 2025, the authorities have filed 8,672 misdemeanor charges. They have also issued 1,333 decisions for the return of individuals, forcibly removed 170 people, and expelled 149 foreign nationals from Montenegro. The officials noted that residency permits have been canceled for 1,576 individuals, while the termination of temporary residency has been initiated for 1,302 others.

The actions taken by the Police Administration reflect a commitment to maintaining the integrity of Montenegrin borders and ensuring that foreign nationals comply with the country’s laws and regulations. As the enforcement campaign continues, authorities are likely to remain vigilant in their efforts to address any irregularities related to foreign residency.
