The town of Pljevlja in Montenegro has officially opened two new bridges on the road connecting Mijakovići and Vrulja. The longer bridge, measuring 160 meters, is named the “King Alexander Karađorđević Unifier Bridge”, while the shorter bridge, at 128 meters, has been named the “King Peter I Karađorđević Liberator Bridge”. These names were chosen by the local community, as stated by Dario Vraneš, the President of Pljevlja Municipality.

The inauguration of the bridges took place on December 1, 2023, a date that holds significant meaning as it marks the Day of Unification of Montenegro and Serbia. Vraneš emphasized the importance of this event, noting that the names of the bridges and the timing of their opening carry symbolic weight for the people of the region.

“The people’s desire lives on—sometimes it waits for years, decades, or even centuries. But one thing is certain: it is always fulfilled in the end,” Vraneš remarked, highlighting the enduring hope for unity among the local population.

The construction of these bridges is expected to enhance connectivity and accessibility within the region, providing vital infrastructure for both residents and visitors. The new crossings symbolize not only physical connections but also a cultural and historical bond that resonates deeply with the community.

With the completion of these projects, Pljevlja strengthens its infrastructure while honoring historical figures who played significant roles in the region’s past. The bridges are a testament to the aspirations and collective identity of the people, reflecting a shared vision for the future.
