As SC Derby prepares to take on the third-placed team in Group A, Cluj, the stakes are high. The match is set to begin at 20:00 local time, and SC Derby is in desperate need of a turnaround after a string of defeats. Currently, the team has not secured any wins on the road this season, with their only two victories occurring at home against Split and Krka.

SC Derby’s head coach, Petar Mijović, acknowledges the challenge ahead. “We are playing against an exceptionally offensive team with top-notch talent and quality. Our situation is what it is, and it is crucial that we approach this match against the favorites with strength and aggression,” he stated. Despite facing personnel challenges, Mijović emphasized the need for motivation and resilience.

The team from Podgorica traveled to Cluj on Wednesday to ensure they are well-rested and prepared for the encounter. Cluj has demonstrated impressive form, registering seven victories against only three losses this season. Their sole home defeat came against Partizan, while they have also faced setbacks away from home against Dubai and Split in the second and third rounds of the competition.

The Romanian team is currently on a strong trajectory, having lost only once in their last seven matches, and they are well-positioned to secure a top-four spot that leads to the Top 8 phase of the regional tournament. In contrast, SC Derby is mired in a five-game losing streak, making tonight’s game critical for breaking that trend.

“We are going up against a team that is in excellent form and plays very well at home. We need to stay focused for all 40 minutes, both offensively and defensively,” said Nikola Šaranović, a forward for SC Derby. He joined the team recently and made his debut in the last match against Dubai, though he did not score in his 14 minutes on the court.

In their previous encounter in Podgorica, Cluj secured a convincing victory, winning 95-82 after leading by a staggering 31 points at one stage.

Patrik Richard, an American shooting guard for Cluj, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming game, noting, “This is just another ABA League match we are looking forward to, especially since we are at home during the holidays. Our goal is to defend our home court.” Richard contributed 11 points, along with six assists, three rebounds, and two steals in the previous match against SC Derby.

As SC Derby seeks to end its losing streak, the outcome of this match could significantly impact both teams’ standings in the ABA League. With Cluj riding high on confidence and SC Derby determined to turn things around, the clash promises to be an exciting showdown.
