The beloved British sitcom, Only Fools and Horses, has left an indelible mark on comedy since its debut in 1981. Celebrated for its memorable characters and iconic catchphrases, the series chronicled the misadventures of market trader Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter, played by Sir David Jason, and his brother Rodney Trotter, portrayed by Nicholas Lyndhurst. As the show continues to resonate with audiences through reruns, many fans remain curious about the lives and careers of its cast members after the series concluded in 2003.

Sir David Jason has enjoyed a prolific career beyond his role as Del Boy. He is also known for characters such as Detective Inspector Jack Frost in A Touch of Frost and Granville in Open All Hours. Most recently, he appeared in the revival of Open All Hours in 2019. Jason became a father at the age of 61 when his partner, Gill Hinchcliffe, gave birth to their daughter in 2001. The couple married in 2005 and currently reside in Buckinghamshire.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Lyndhurst has remained a prominent figure in television. Best known for his role as Rodney, he has also starred in Goodnight Sweetheart and Going Straight. Recently, Lyndhurst featured in the American revival of Frasier, which premiered in 2023, playing the character Alan Cornwall. He married Lucy Jane Smith in September 1999, and they welcomed their son, Archie Bjorn Lyndhurst, in 2000. Tragically, Archie passed away in 2020 from a brain haemorrhage linked to acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. In a statement, Lyndhurst expressed deep grief and requested privacy for his family. He now enjoys a quieter life in West Sussex, where he engages in hobbies like diving and flying.

Tessa Peake-Jones is well-remembered for her portrayal of Raquel Turner, Del Boy’s love interest. She joined the series in 1988 and remained until its conclusion. The actress has an extensive career, featuring in shows like Bergerac and Midsomer Murders. Recently, she returned as Mrs Chapman in the ninth series of Grantchester, which aired in January 2023. After a long relationship with Douglas Hodge, who played her son in one episode, Peake-Jones has moved on while raising their two children, Charlie and Molly-Rose.

Another familiar face from the series is Gwyneth Strong, known for her role as Cassandra Parry, Rodney’s girlfriend. Although her last television appearance was in EastEnders in 2016, Strong remains active in theatre, recently portraying Mrs. Boyle in the 70th anniversary production of The Mousetrap. Strong married actor Jesse Birdsall in 2000, and they have two children together.

Paul Barber, who played Denzil Tulser, frequently found himself caught up in Del Boy’s schemes. Barber has enjoyed a varied career, with appearances in Coronation Street and other notable series. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, he received an honorary doctorate from Liverpool John Moores University in July 2011.

The series also featured Harry Merryfield, best known for his role as Uncle Albert. Merryfield began his acting career later in life, making his debut at 57 after discovering his passion during World War II. He joined the show following the death of Lennard Pearce, who played Grandad Trotter. Merryfield became known for his signature line, “During the war…” Sadly, he passed away on June 23, 1999, following a battle with a brain tumour.

The enduring legacy of Only Fools and Horses continues to captivate audiences, with its cast members’ journeys reflecting both triumphs and tragedies. As fans celebrate the series, they remain grateful for the laughter and memories shared through its unforgettable characters.
