Balvinder Sopal Declares ‘Best Friend’ After Strictly Come Dancing Debut
Balvinder Sopal, known for her role as Suki Panesar-Unwin on EastEnders, has made headlines after announcing her dance partner, Julian Caillon, as her “best friend” following their debut on Strictly Come Dancing. The popular BBC One dance competition returned on September 20, 2025, showcasing its vibrant launch show where Sopal and other celebrity contestants took to the stage for the first time.
The launch event featured hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who welcomed the new stars alongside the judging panel, including Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, and Anton Du Beke. The spotlight was on the newly announced pairings, with Sopal partnered with Australian-born professional dancer Caillon. He joined the show this year as one of two new professionals, alongside American dancer Alexis Warr.
Caillon, who has been dancing since the age of 10, has built an impressive career in dance, specializing in Ballroom and Latin American styles. His experience includes appearances on three seasons of Australia’s Dancing With The Stars and participation in international performances, including the acclaimed dance show Burn The Floor.
Following the launch show, Sopal took to Instagram to express her excitement about their partnership. She shared multiple selfies with Caillon, stating, “And so our #Strictly journey begins. That was a banging launch show, set the tone for what’s to come. It’s so exciting!!! @julian_caillon you are an incredible human, beautiful dancer and brilliant teacher. I am very lucky, and super happy to be paired with you.” She added, “Now… let’s get Samba under our belts.”
As the second week of training commenced, Sopal has embraced the world of social media, particularly TikTok. She and Caillon featured in a video that humorously showcased their growing friendship. Caillon shared the clip on his Instagram, captioning it, “What a way to start the week! Not only are we having a blast in the dance studio but we may have accidentally become best friends… #teambalian #strictlycomedancing.”
Sopal echoed the sentiment in her response, saying, “I’ve embraced TikTok… and found a new best friend!!! This actually was fun.” Fans responded enthusiastically, with comments praising her lighthearted approach and expressing eagerness for more content from the pair. One user remarked, “Bal doing TikToks is something I didn’t know I needed,” while another added, “Team Balian in their TikTok Era – cannot wait to see you guys smash it this weekend.”
