The Montenegro Women’s Volleyball Team has drawn a challenging group for the upcoming 2024 European Championship, set to take place in Gothenburg, Sweden. They will compete against formidable opponents including the host nation, Sweden, as well as the reigning world champions, Italy, France, Slovakia, and Croatia. Montenegro will debut at this prestigious tournament, marking a significant milestone in their volleyball history.

Coach Jovo Caković expressed his thoughts on the tough competition, stating, “We found ourselves in a difficult group, but the others are filled with strong teams as well, so there are no easy matches at the championship.” He emphasized the importance of their participation, noting it as a chance for the team to showcase their skills on a grand stage.

The players will prepare diligently leading up to the championship, with Caković highlighting the need for the team to be healthy and in top form. “It is crucial that the girls compete well in their clubs and come together in the strongest lineup possible,” he added, reflecting on their previous experiences in the Golden League where they faced several of these teams.

Captain Nikoleta Perović, the most experienced member of the national team, views this opportunity as the pinnacle of her career. She remarked, “The group is truly demanding. Italy is the world champion, and France is a very strong team, as is Sweden with Isabella Haak, one of the best outside hitters in the world.” Perović is keenly aware of the challenges but remains optimistic about their potential. “Every match is an opportunity to demonstrate our character and team spirit. We are aware of the challenges but also of our strengths. We will give everything we have to represent Montenegro to the best of our ability,” she stated.

The 2024 European Championship will be the fourth edition featuring 24 teams, and the total event will be the 34th in its history. Scheduled from August 21 to September 6, 2024, the tournament will also take place in Istanbul, Brno, and Baku. Turkey will aim to defend its title as the reigning champions.

As Montenegro prepares for this significant event, the anticipation grows for how the team will perform against some of Europe’s best volleyball nations. The championship represents a unique opportunity for the players to shine and for Montenegro’s presence in international volleyball to be firmly established.
