Police Investigate String of Tyre Slashings in Bristol Area

Authorities in Bristol are investigating a series of tyre slashing incidents that have left numerous vehicle owners facing unexpected repair costs. Between the early hours of July 6, 2023, and midday, at least 10 reports of vandalism were received by Avon and Somerset Police. The incidents occurred in the Fishponds area, specifically affecting vehicles parked on Everest Road, Frome Terrace, and River View.

The police have described the actions as “mindless vandalism,” with a suspect believed to be a lone male in his late teens or early 20s. The attacks reportedly began around 02:30 and continued into the morning, targeting vehicles without any discernible connection between the owners.

In light of these events, officers have urged local residents to review their CCTV and doorbell camera footage for any relevant evidence. Police Constable Sophie Fraser, who is leading the investigation, encouraged individuals who may have been affected to come forward. “This mindless vandalism has had an impact on victims, who now face expensive bills to replace the damaged tyres,” she stated.

Authorities are actively conducting house-to-house inquiries and increasing patrols in the affected areas to deter further incidents. PC Fraser emphasized the significance of doorbell cameras, highlighting their effectiveness in gathering evidence and their potential to serve as a deterrent to criminal activity.
