Technical Fault Halts Bar–Bijelo Polje Train in Sozina Tunnel

A technical malfunction on train number 6102, which operates between Bar and Bijelo Polje, temporarily halted service in the Sozina Tunnel on March 15, 2024. The incident occurred shortly after the train departed from Bar at 15:30 hours, with the issue reported at 16:45 hours. According to the Željeznička prevoza Crne Gore (ŽPCG), all necessary procedures for railway operations were followed during this event.

Passengers were promptly informed about the situation. The train conductor was required to leave the train to report the malfunction, as part of standard operating procedures. The train’s engineer attempted to rectify the issue immediately. Due to technical limitations within the tunnel, one of the conductors had to exit the train to reach a signal point and contact the relevant authorities.

ŽPCG confirmed that a replacement locomotive was dispatched to assist. This locomotive arrived and successfully pulled the train to Sutomore station by 17:42 hours, at which point normal service was resumed. The train continued its journey to Bijelo Polje, departing at 18:11 hours with a functioning locomotive.

Although ŽPCG currently operates with older locomotives, officials assured that the malfunction was minor and did not compromise passenger safety. All procedures were adhered to strictly, ensuring the highest level of security for those on board.

To enhance safety and reliability in the future, ŽPCG has plans for a modernization of its fleet starting next year. The organization expressed gratitude to passengers for their understanding and patience during the disruption.
