Traffic Disruptions and Weather Challenges Hit Montenegro Roads

Drivers in Montenegro are facing significant challenges today due to wet road conditions and reduced visibility. Heavy rainfall has led to frequent landslides and water accumulation on various routes, prompting local authorities to advise cautious driving and adherence to traffic regulations.

According to the Auto Moto Savez Crne Gore (AMSCG), the use of winter tires is mandatory for all motor vehicles on specified roads until April 1, 2026, regardless of weather conditions. This requirement comes as authorities aim to enhance road safety during winter months. Drivers must ensure that their winter tires have a minimum tread depth of 4 mm.

Traffic disruptions are particularly notable on the Cetinje-Podgorica road. Protests in the area will result in traffic being halted from 17:20 to 20:30 hours. Additionally, on the regional road R-10, traffic has been completely suspended in Sokolovina due to rockslides as part of ongoing remediation efforts.

Construction work on the M-2 highway will also affect traffic flow. Until November 30, there will be alternating traffic on several sections due to reconstruction, which may include brief total halts lasting no longer than 30 minutes. This work covers stretches between Lepenac-Ribarevina, Ribarevina-Poda, and Poda-Berane.

On the regional road R-29, which connects Bar to Kamenicki Most and Krute, traffic will be halted for all vehicles from 08:00 to 11:00 and again from 13:00 to 16:00 due to ongoing construction activities.

In another significant change, the roadway Petnjica-Bioča will also see a shift to alternating traffic as construction progresses. These alterations will involve periods of total traffic stoppage not exceeding 60 minutes, except during weekdays between 07:00 and 09:00 and 12:00 and 14:00.

The M-1 highway section Bar-Ulcinj is undergoing bridge repairs, necessitating a traffic change to alternating flows until November 22. Meanwhile, for the M-3 route, traffic is currently limited to one lane in specific work areas, regulated by traffic lights.

Further complicating travel, the construction of a boulevard in Podgorica has resulted in traffic diversions. Alternative routes are now in place, guided by newly established traffic signage.

A brief traffic halt is scheduled for November 16 from 21:00 to 07:00 due to the transportation of components for a wind farm, affecting routes from Bar to Niksic.

The Montenegrin traffic police reported that a total of 23 traffic accidents occurred in the past 24 hours, with five individuals sustaining minor injuries. The AMSC is providing technical assistance to motorists, which includes roadside help and free towing services to the nearest repair stations for registered vehicles.

Residents can obtain real-time information about traffic conditions and assistance by calling the AMSC’s information center at 19807, 020234999, or 063239987. The center operates 24 hours a day, ensuring that drivers are kept informed during these challenging conditions.
