Turkish National Detained at Božaj Border on Interpol Warrant

A Turkish national was apprehended at the Božaj border crossing yesterday under an Interpol warrant. The individual, identified as G.A., aged 49, attempted to exit Montenegro when he was detained by border police. According to the Police Administration, the arrest took place during a routine check at the border.

The border police confirmed that G.A. is the subject of an international warrant issued by Interpol Turkey. The warrant was verified through police records in collaboration with the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol in Podgorica. G.A. is wanted for serving the remainder of a prison sentence totaling 10 years, 3 months, and 10 days, as mandated by the Higher Criminal Court in Adana, Turkey. The charges include membership in an organization established for the purpose of committing criminal acts and robbery carried out by multiple individuals.

Following his arrest, G.A.’s identity was confirmed through official communications between NCB Interpol Podgorica and NCB Interpol Ankara. He has been transferred to the custody of an investigative judge at the Higher Court in Podgorica. This transfer is part of the legal process to determine the appropriate extradition procedures.

The case highlights the ongoing cooperation between law enforcement agencies across borders, particularly in combating transnational crime. Montenegro’s border police continue to play a crucial role in these efforts, ensuring that individuals wanted for serious offenses are apprehended before they can flee to other countries.
