Boeing Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Engine Fire Incident

A Boeing passenger aircraft operated by Condor Airlines was forced to make an emergency landing on August 16, 2025, after its engine caught fire shortly after takeoff from Corfu. The flight, designated as DE 3665, was en route to Düsseldorf when passengers reported seeing flames erupt from the right wing of the plane.
The incident occurred at approximately 20:29 local time, just after the aircraft had climbed to an altitude of 36,000 feet. Some of the 273 passengers on board described the situation as alarming. One individual recounted, “Suddenly, the power went out for a few seconds, and we realized we were no longer climbing.” Another passenger expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “It was an incredibly horrible experience. I already sent goodbye texts because I thought, ‘It’s over now.’”
As the crew became aware of the engine issue, they noted that airflow to the right turbine had been disrupted. In response, the pilots promptly shut down the affected engine. The aircraft redirected to Brindisi, located in southern Italy, and landed safely after approximately 40 minutes in the air.
Upon landing at Brindisi Airport around 20:15, all passengers and the eight crew members disembarked without incident. They were either accommodated in a hotel or spent the night at the airport terminal. The following day, a replacement aircraft was dispatched to transport them to Düsseldorf, departing at 10:30.
Condor Airlines later addressed the incident, emphasizing that none of the individuals on board were ever in danger. A spokesperson explained that the orange flashes observed from the engine were due to a chemical reaction occurring within the combustion chamber. “The reason was a parameter indication outside the normal range caused by a disturbance in the airflow supply to the engine,” they clarified.
“The decision to divert to Brindisi was made as a precautionary measure. The aircraft landed safely, and all guests disembarked normally,” the spokesperson added. Condor Airlines expressed regret for any inconvenience caused, reaffirming that passenger and employee safety remains their top priority.
Emergency situations such as this highlight the rigorous protocols airlines follow to ensure passenger safety during flight. The swift actions of the flight crew contributed to a safe outcome for all aboard, demonstrating the importance of preparedness in the aviation industry.
