Budva Secures Semi-Final Spot as Montenegro Cup Quarterfinals Begin

The quarterfinals of the Montenegro Volleyball Cup commenced this weekend, with Budva already securing a place in the semifinals without competing. As the reigning champions, Budva will watch as three other teams vie for the remaining semifinal spots.

The quarterfinal matches kicked off with a showdown between Ulcinj and Jedinstvo, scheduled for today at the OSH “Maršal Tito” sports hall in Ulcinj. During the league season, Jedinstvo managed to secure one of its four victories against Ulcinj, marking a significant achievement. Ulcinj, a newcomer in the Superliga, has recorded one win in the championship and will aim to replicate its strong performance against Jedinstvo, where they narrowly lost in a tiebreaker.

Shortly after, at 20:30, Sutjeska will compete against Buducnost in the Sports Center in Nikšić. Buducnost has maintained an unbeaten record in the current EPCG Superliga season and previously triumphed over Sutjeska with a score of 3:1 in their last encounter in Nikšić.

The last quarterfinal match is set for Tuesday, when Mornar will host Lovćen at the “Topolica” hall. Mornar previously dominated Lovćen in the championship, creating high expectations for this upcoming clash.

The semifinal pairings will be determined by a draw, with the matches slated to take place in the latter half of December. The quarterfinal schedule is as follows: today, Ulcinj faces Jedinstvo at 20:00, and Sutjeska takes on Buducnost at 20:30. Mornar will compete against Lovćen on Tuesday at 20:00, while Budva remains on standby.
