Traffic Blocked by Discontented Dispatchers in Montenegro

Traffic disruptions occurred in Montenegro as dispatchers and clerks from the state-owned railway company, ŽICG, initiated a blockade in response to ongoing grievances regarding working conditions and pay. The protest has raised significant concerns about the operational stability of the railway system, which is vital for both passenger and freight transit in the region.
According to Marina Bošković, the Executive Director of ŽICG, the actions taken by the employees represent “subversive activities by a small group of workers.” She emphasized that the company will not yield to what she described as “ultimatum blackmail.” Bošković also stated that any illegal work stoppages would be addressed in accordance with legal standards.
The blockade has severely affected transport throughout Montenegro, particularly in key urban areas where the railway network is a primary means of transportation. Passengers have reported significant delays, leading to frustration and uncertainty regarding their travel plans. Freight services have also faced disruptions, impacting businesses that rely on timely deliveries.
The protest highlights ongoing tensions within the railway sector as workers voice dissatisfaction over wages and workplace conditions. Employees have expressed that their concerns have not been adequately addressed by management, leading to increased discontent.
In response to the unfolding situation, Bošković has called for dialogue to resolve the issues at hand, stressing the importance of maintaining operational integrity. The company aims to restore normalcy as quickly as possible while adhering to legal frameworks concerning employee actions.
The situation remains fluid, with both sides indicating a willingness to negotiate. The outcome of these discussions could significantly influence the future of labor relations within ŽICG and the broader transport sector in Montenegro.
As developments continue, the impact on local commuters and businesses will be closely monitored. The effective resolution of this dispute may not only restore railway operations but also set a precedent for how similar issues are handled in the future.
