Chris Hemsworth Rocks the Drums with Parkway Drive’s Ben Gordon

In an unexpected collaboration, actor Chris Hemsworth is learning to play the drums from Ben Gordon, the drummer of the renowned Australian metalcore band Parkway Drive. This unique mentorship is part of Hemsworth’s preparation for an appearance alongside pop superstar Ed Sheeran during his upcoming stadium tour.
Hemsworth, best known for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expressed his excitement in a teaser clip for the Disney+ series Limitless: Live Better Now. “The task is set,” he stated. “I’ve got around two months of prep until I have to go and play with one of the biggest performing acts on the planet. So, I need one hell of a teacher.” Gordon, who has been with Parkway Drive since the band’s formation in 2003, fits that description perfectly.
A Unique Friendship
The relationship between Hemsworth and Gordon began several years ago when they became friends after Gordon moved to Byron Bay. “We’ll go for a wave together when we’re both home,” Gordon shared with The AU Review. Their shared passion for music and the ocean has strengthened their bond, and now they are spending considerable time together as Hemsworth trains for his drumming debut.
Gordon provided insight into the dynamics of their drum lessons, describing Hemsworth as a dedicated student. “It’s great to get to know Chris better,” he said, noting that their time together has brought them closer. “It is quite random, but it’s been a fun experience.”
Hemsworth’s foray into drumming is not merely for personal enjoyment. He will be performing with Sheeran, who is known for his versatility, having collaborated with various artists across genres. The actor’s preparation includes rigorous rehearsals with Parkway Drive, which have proven to be challenging. According to Gordon, Hemsworth’s struggles with timing during rehearsals led to some humorous moments, particularly with Parkway Drive’s frontman Winston McCall. “Chris told me afterwards that he was thinking, ‘Wow, these guys are full on,’” Gordon recounted.
Upcoming Performances
Fans can look forward to seeing the results of Hemsworth’s drumming lessons in the episodes of Limitless: Live Better Now, currently streaming on Disney+. The series showcases Hemsworth’s journey as he prepares for a performance that merges his acting career with his newfound musical aspirations.
Parkway Drive is also gearing up for their own milestone, with their 20th anniversary European tour set to kick off on September 19, 2023, in Leipzig, Germany. The tour will make its way to the UK, starting on October 4, 2023, promising to deliver their signature energy to fans across the continent.
This collaboration between Hemsworth and Gordon exemplifies the unexpected intersections of the entertainment world, highlighting the camaraderie between artists from different backgrounds. As fans eagerly await the upcoming performances, the fusion of Hemsworth’s acting and drumming endeavors signals a creative journey that may surprise many.
