Influencer Couple Sparks Debate with Baby Name Sandle

Influencer couple Liana and Connor have stirred significant debate with the announcement of their daughter’s name, Sandle. The pair, known for their unconventional naming choices, previously faced scrutiny for naming their son Koazy. As Liana approaches her due date, they have revealed their latest name decision during a podcast episode, igniting a mix of reactions from their followers.
In a recent episode of their podcast, “Koazy Corner,” Liana shared that the name Sandle was inspired by family members. The couple drew from Liana’s mother, Sandra, and Connor’s mother, Rachel, to create the name. Liana stated, “It took us a while. When we first came up with it we thought it might be a bit abnormal but obviously we don’t care – if we like the name we’re going to use it anyway.” Connor echoed her sentiments, adding, “We could call our baby Jess and people would have a problem with it!”
Despite their confidence in the name choice, the couple noted that Sandle’s name is not definitively set until after her birth. Following the podcast’s release, a video shared on TikTok quickly attracted attention, with many users expressing their opinions on the name.
Critics voiced concerns over the trend of unique names, with one commenter lamenting, “In 40 years we’re gonna have no nice normal names left like Liam, John, Ryan, Paul, Steve.” Another user questioned the name, stating, “I think they have gone too far… Koazy was a bit unnatural but still cute; this one isn’t very cute.”
While some comments reflected disappointment, others defended the couple’s choice. One supporter remarked, “I don’t get why people can’t just let them name their kids in peace? It’s not your kid; why give so much hate?” Another added, “That’s actually cute – like her nickname might be Sandy.”
The couple’s previous experience with the name Koazy had already drawn mixed reactions, leaving Liana visibly upset at the backlash. In a TikTok video addressing the criticism, she remarked, “I knew everyone wasn’t going to love the name so I am not going to sit here defending it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.”
According to linguistic experts at Babbel, the trend of unique names is expected to continue. They predict a move towards shorter names with a playful quality, reflecting a broader cultural shift towards minimalism. Their research indicates that names traditionally used as nicknames, such as Freddie or Theo, are gaining popularity, alongside nature-inspired names like River and Ivy.
As Liana and Connor prepare for the arrival of their daughter, the couple remains steadfast in their commitment to choosing names that resonate personally, regardless of public opinion. The ongoing conversation surrounding their choices highlights the evolving landscape of baby naming in contemporary society, where individuality often clashes with traditional expectations.
