Kate Garraway Reveals Claudia Winkleman Declined WhatsApp Invite
In a recent revelation, Kate Garraway disclosed that fellow television presenter Claudia Winkleman declined an invitation to join the Celebrity Traitors WhatsApp group, a communication platform established among the cast members of the popular show. Garraway, who was the latest celebrity to be eliminated from the show, made this announcement during her appearance on Good Morning Britain.
The 58-year-old presenter was eliminated just before the show’s finale, marking her as the last contestant to reveal her true identity after being banished. The WhatsApp group, which the cast uses to discuss various aspects of the show, has reportedly been quite active. Garraway stated, “The WhatsApp group is popping off all day and night, actually. It’s brilliant.”
Claudia Winkleman’s Decision
Garraway expressed the group’s affection for Winkleman, stating, “We invited Claudia to join the group because we all adore Claudia, obviously. But she said no.” Winkleman, who hosts the show, explained her reasoning by suggesting that the contestants needed a space solely for themselves now that they were no longer in the game.
Her exact words were, “You need a place that’s just for you guys now that you’re out and you know what’s going on.” This decision reflects Winkleman’s understanding of the intense dynamics that occur within the competition.
Insights from Behind the Scenes
During her interview segment, Garraway provided further insights into her experience on Celebrity Traitors. She described the atmosphere around the show’s roundtable as potentially “standoffish,” but emphasized that she never took the tension personally. “At the end of the day, it’s an incredible game, which you’re completely sucked into,” she noted while speaking with hosts Adil Ray and Ranvir Singh.
Garraway highlighted the isolating nature of the competition, where contestants have no access to their phones or the outside world, creating an intense environment. She reflected, “I didn’t take it personally because I’ve lived genuine life or death. So at the end of the day, this is a game, and you know that you’re not really going to be murdered.” She acknowledged the emotional bonds formed quickly among contestants in such a confined setting.
In a particularly poignant moment, Garraway revealed that she initially hesitated to participate in a dramatic scene involving a coffin during the second episode. This moment echoed her personal experiences related to her husband, Derek Draper, who has faced serious health challenges. After observing fellow contestants Charlotte Church and Paloma Faith struggle to carry the coffin, she decided to step up. The production team ensured her well-being throughout the process, with a psychologist present on set.
The finale of Celebrity Traitors is set to air on Thursday at 21:00 on BBC One, promising an exciting conclusion to the season.
